A scenic & varied ride from Sutherland Station through the Royal National Park & then down the coast to Wollongong via the Sea Cliff Bridge. Touga Rd, Boomerang Pass, Ettrema Creek, Murray Pools , Coolumburra, Touga Rd.  An introduction to this sublime creek. A steep 300m descent to  easy rock, hopping along the creek below towering sandstone cliffs to a beautiful campsite with nearby swimming pools. Possible wet feet. Sat: Uni Rover trail, Misery Ridge to Kowmung River and a great campsite on southern side opposite Hanrahans Ck. Sun, Up Ghosts Ridge to our cars on Uni Rover Track Junction (no car swap!). Glen Davis, Tim O'Shanters Creek, camp at 479360 (high camp), follow Creek South, exit to Capertee River. Interesting Country. Please waterproof packs, exploratory, scrambling.  Might have to change location of walk if Park still closed (due to bush fires). DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Mar 24, 25   KANANGRA-BOYD NP (q)
Kowmung River Fire Trail,  Box Creek Falls and return. Mostly off track,  but a bit of a social trip for everyone,  with a small Saturday night party for one senior club member,  or for anyone else who feels they have something that needs celebrating. Bring stoves. A day walk to the Kowmung either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning for those interested. Plenty of places for a swim if the weather is good. DISTANCE: SHORT. Mar28-Apr2 2018  YURAYGIR NP (Q)
Expression of Interest sought. Coastal walk of 65km over 4 days one, way. Clearly signed starting at Angourie ending at Red Rock. Several campgrounds along the way. Creek and river crossings. Easy to medium with a few hard sections, much of it on sand, with bush, rock platforms and rock hopping. Bonus: We may spot one of the 100 emus that inhabit the area. Need to coordinate transport to Angourie from Red Cliff to go back to car. I have not done the walk before. DISTANCE: LONG. TRIP GRADE: EASY/MEDIUM/EXPLORATORY MAPS: NP. TRANSPORT: $190.
 

Mar30-Apr3  SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS (Q)
Mt Colong, Mootik Walls, Kowmung River, 4.25 days.  Drive to Batsh Camp Thurs night. Day 1:  From the Yerranderie Rd / Mt Armour Fire Trail junction, climb Mt Colong via Colong Point to camp near the spring.  If it's been very dry, we'll carry extra water to stash some below Colong Point for Day 2 and take the rest up to the summit for overnight.  Day 2: From Tonalli Gap, traverse Mootik Walls and descend from Colong Gap to camp near the Tonalli River.  Day 3: Descend to the Kowmung via Mt Armour, and camp near Broken Point after two river crossings (wet feet and possibly more).  Day 4: Ascend Donnellys Ridge and camp near Colong Swamp.  Day 5:  Walk several km to arrive back at the cars before lunch with plenty of time to drive home.  Spectacular views, lovely campsites. About 2/3 on fire trails, 1/3 off-track through mostly open scrub.   Approx 1400 metres ascent and descent over 4 days and 56 km over 4.25 days at a moderate pace. Party limit of 8. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Kanangra Car Park, Kanangra Walls, Coal Seam Cave, Gingra Track, Brumby Ridge, Orange Bluffs, Kowmung River, Ferny Flat, Fourth Top, Gingra Creek, Gingra Track, Kanangra Car Park. Mostly on track, river walking with some off, track sections.  Enjoy an autumn bush, walk in this classic area. Possible wet feet. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. TRIP GRADE: MEDIUM MAPS: KANANGRA, YERRANDERIE. Mar30-Apr3  BUDAWANGS (Q) - 5 DAYS
A five day odyssey from the Wog Wog entrance to Corang Pk, Burrumbeet Brook, Mt Cole, Mt Owen, Monolith Valley, Mt Tarn, Mt Haughton,hopefully Hidden Valley and return via Corang Lagoon. Its been a long time between visits to some of these sacred sites and I suspect there might be quite a bit of scrub in places. You have been warned!. Early morning drive to Salt Pan Cove, walk to Newport Beach for breakfast, catch bus to Barrenjoey Beach. Paddle to Great Mackerel Beach and return down the Western shore of Pittwater to Scotland Island and Salt Pan Cove. Packraft of Alpaca type or equivalent required. May 5-7   KANANGRA-BOYD NP (Q)
Drive to Kanangra Friday evening.  Kanangra Walls, Cloudmaker, 100 Man Cave, 1000 Man Cave and return.  We will spend two nights enjoying the ambience of 100 Man Cave and pay a relaxed visit to 1000 Man Cave with day packs on Day 2.  Spectacular views, including the Sydney skyline from Ti Willa Plateau if it's fine. Mainly on track.  Carry at least 2 litres water for the dry ridges on Days 1 and 3.  Party limit of eight. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. TRIP GRADE: MEDIUM/HARD MAPS: Kanangra. Start at Epping Station ride the Epping Rd cycleway to Lane Cove then its down Burns Bay Rd to the Fig Tree Bridge, Tarban Ck Bridge, Gladesville Bridge, Iron Cove Bridge, Anzac Bridge, Pyrmont Bridge, Barrangaroo Reserve, Observatory Hill, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Millers St to Cammeray followed by the Gore Hill & Epping Rd Cycleways back to Epping. A leisurely walk from Minnamurra to Kiama of approximately 8km, which includes walking along Bombo beach.  If the tide is favourable we’ll walk around the headland from Bombo to Kiama. The trip leader is likely to have a swim in the surf at Bombo or the sea pool at Kiama. Note -  The train from Central to Minnamurra takes just over 2 hours. DISTANCE: SHORT. Choice of leaving from Epping, Olympic Pk (Victoria Ave) or Guildford Station. The ride takes us out along the pipeline/ canal to Prospect Reservoir, south to Fairfield City Farm, down Orphan School Ck to Fairfield then up Prospect Ck and back along the canal to Guildford. Start at Mercury Pl Kings Langley (or option of Seven Hills Station) and ride the whole length or as much as you wish of this wonderful cycle track in Sydneys western suburbs. Full length return distance approx 80km. All on shared off road paths, bring your own lunch or buy at Prestons. Please ring to confirm details. Mcleans Pass Carpark, Mcleans Pass, Mt Wolgan, Blue Rock Gap, Hughes Defile, Red Rocks Ck (camp), Collett Gap, Mount Dawson (camp), Ross Knob, Little Capertee Ck, Newnes. Jun 9-11   MORTON NP (Q)
Greta Rd, old 4WD track, Manning Saddle, Dog Leg Cave, Possibility Point.  All track walk over flat undulating country.  Base camp at Manning saddle (16k) with a 12k return day walk to Possibility Point for arguably the best panoramic view of Ettrema Creek.  A great winter walk especially for those who don't like ascents/descents. Jun25-Jul6   WEST MACDONNELL  RANGES NP (Q)
Expressions of interest are sought for this walk at the western end of the West Macs that includes climbing 4 of the highest peaks in the area.  Mt Razorback (1262), the iconic Mt Sonder (1297), Unnamed Peak (1307) and Mt Giles (1366).  This walk also includes Redbank Gorge, Ormiston Gorge/Pound, Canyon of Defiance, Giles Spring, Inarlanga Gorge and Ochre Pits.  Mostly off track with a section of the Larapinta Trail.  This is hard rugged country so only fit and experienced walkers. Fly to/from Alice Springs then bus from and back to Alice. Bring stoves and cold weather gear.  Includes food drop at Ormiston. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Mid-Late July 2018   WEST MACDONNELLS NP (Q)
Two off track, partly exploratory walks, 11 days total.   1.  Hugh Gorge area (7 days):  Walk up Hugh Gorge to the "Macrozamia Amphitheatre" and explore the peaks at the NW end of the Gorge; head W along the northern side of the Chewings Range; cross to the southern side at "Pyramid Gorge" (including "Spiral Canyon"); explore other gorges on the way back to Hugh Gorge.   2. Mt Razorback area (4 days):  From Redbank Gorge, walk to the SE creek off Razorback and set up a base camp in an attractive gorge with an excellent pool nearby; a day circuit of Razorback summit and the lower ridge to the E; another day trip to explore the full length of the SE gorge and its major tributaries; return to Redbank Gorge.  Beautiful gorges and panoramic views. Spinifex, rocky ground, some very steep slopes, rock scrambling, but at a moderate pace with the majority of days being fairly short.  For experienced walkers who don't mind a bit of exposure when climbing.  Stoves only.  Party limit of 8.  Bookings close 4 March. Jul30-Aug10   KAKADU NP (Q)
Expressions of interest are sought for this walk  across the Arnhem Land Plateau from Flying Fox ford on the Sth Alligator River to Jim Jim Falls.  This walk will take in many of the major highlights of Kakadu including Koolpin Gorge/Creek, Amphitheater Falls, Steps Falls, Battleship Rocks, Big Sandy Pool and Jim Jim  Creek/Falls.  Many great swimming pools and amazing Aboriginal rock art.  Note: This walk is subject to approval by Kakadu NP authorities and Indigenous owners.  For fit and experienced walkers who can handle the heat, c. 30, 32  degrees each day.  If you are uncertain about your ability to do this walk consult the leader.  The Medium/Hard grading means this trip will be more difficult than most previous CMW Kakadu trips. Aug25-Sep1  PODLASIE REGION. EASTERN POLAND  - Cycling

Aug30-Sep3  GREAT SANDY NP, QLD (Q)
Cooloola Great Walk, a 5 day,  88 km walk from Tewantin (Noosa North Shore) to Rainbow Beach (near Fraser Island) via the high eastern dunes of the Cooloola Sandmass. A delightful walk on tracks through coastal heath, eucalypt forest and sub, tropical rainforest. Some beach walking and sand blow traverses. Great campsites. See Ian Smith's article in ITB Nov 2015. Sep 1-24    KARKONOSZE AND JIZERSKIE MOUNTAINS, POLAND AND CZECH REPUBLIC (Q)
3 weeks walking in Poland and Czech Republic in Karkonosze Mountains and Jizerskie Mountains. Flying to Warsaw and onward to Prague for 3 days backpacker tourism. Train to Szklarska Poreba. 7 days walking in Magnificent Karkonosze Mountains, to the top of Snieska (1600m) and into Czech Republic. Day walks around beautiful Szklarska Poreba and visit to historic castle Bolczow. 3 days in the lovely Jizerskie Mountains at the source of the River Elbe. 2 days tourism in unmissable Wroclaw, in Poland and 3 days in Warsaw. No tent or sleeping bag required. All accommodation will be in mountain refuges or cheap-but-good backpacker hostels - all you will need to carry is toothbrush, good mountain clothing, water, lunch and a camera. Sep 8-23 GRANITE BELT NPS, NSW AND QLD (Q)
Car camping with day and optional overnight walks in Sundown, Girraween, and Boonoo Boonoo NPs.  I plan to do two 3 day walks, one in Sundown and one in Girraween.  Beautiful rivers, big waterfalls, huge granite tors, spring flowers.  See article in February ITB for more detail about the country.
