Dec 5-10   SNOWY MOUNTAINS (Q)
Guthega, Upper Pounds Creek, Club Lake Creek, Upper Snowy River (2 nights), Mt Twynam, Guthega. A classic main range tour of the high peaks arriving near Mt Kosciuszko on weekend of 8,  9 December. We will join the other Save Kosci walkers for the protest against the Feral Horse legislation passed by the NSW Government. Good tents,  stoves only,  NPWS advised limit 8. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Dec 7-9   MORTON NP (Q)
One of two walks depending on how hot the weather will be (historically weather in December is unpredictable!).   Option 1:  if it's not going to be a scorcher,  we will start this three day walk on Friday,  walking for about 13k on an old dis,  used fire trail (approx 5 hours with lots of stops,  mostly flat terrain),  setting up a base camp at the Lost Pools which ends in a mini canyon. On Saturday,  with a daypack,  we'll make our way to Lyrebird Leap,  overlooking Cinch Creek and New Moon Creek (a mini canyon). Plenty of opportunities to cool off in the many pools in both these creeks.  Sunday we will walk out retracing our steps on 13k of fire trail.  Option 2:  If the weather's going to be hot,  this is a much shorter walk and we will start the walk on Saturday morning,  walking in to Corang Cascades,  where we will relax and swim all day (take along a pool ring!),  plenty of opportunity to explore up the cascades or just chill out,  floating around in your pool ring (and maybe drinking margaritas!). Jan 15-17   MYALL LAKES NP  - Canoeing/Kayaking
Starting at Neranie campground near Bungwahl,  first day will be a 15km paddle across the Myall Lake to Johnson’s Beach. Second day covers 18km across the Boolambayte Lake and Bombah Broadwater to Sandy Point. The third day will cover the 20km length of the Myall River to Tea Gardens. Bungwahl is on the Lakes Way,  112km (one hour and 20 minutes) drive north from Hexham. We will need to do a car shuffle (details TBA).Paddle will be on open waters subject to both wind and strong tidal influence. Those considering participation should be suitably experienced paddlers and have a boat suited to the conditions. Life jackets and bailing facilities are mandatory requirements.Due to limited opportunities for resupply participants should bring all food and water for the 3 days. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Jan 26-28   SOUTH EAST FORESTS NP,  NSW
From near Hopping Joe Creek,  40kms south of Bombala,  walk approx 6 kms down the Genoa River.  Two attractive campsites with lovely pools.  Return on Day 3 (half a day's walking) via fairly open ridges with approx 300 metres climbing.  Parts of the river banks are scrubby and involve rock,  hopping.  Occasionally we wade down the river,  waterproof your pack in case the water level is high.  Plenty of time for relaxing and swimming. Feb 2019   THE TARKINE,  TASMANIA  - 4WD TRIP & WALKS
Expressions of interest for 2,  3 weeks in the Tarkine area of NW Tasmania,  to experience the wide range of landscapes and features (rainforest,  rivers,  coastline,  heathlands,  Aboriginal history,  rare plants and animals) this huge region has to offer.  Either take your vehicle to Tas or fly and hire.  Base camp in several different towns to access the surrounding walks,  with a range of part day,  day and at least two overnight trips,  based on information in Phill Pullinger's 2015 Guide,  Tarkine Trails.  4WDs not essential. Feb 4-22  TASMANIA: CENTRAL PLATEAU and TARKINE COAST (Q)
Two medium pack carrying walks. 1. 5-13 Feb. Central Plateau walk of 9 days, on and off track, a through walk with side trips. Walls of Jerusalem - Mt Cathedral – Mtns of Jupiter. The Central Plateau is in a world heritage area, which features thousands of lakes in an alpine environment.   2. 16-21 Feb. Tarkine coast, or the NW Tasmanian coast, a 6 day through walk, following the coast and some tracks, from the Pieman River mouth north to Temma.  It is a spectacular, wild and often very windy coast and features a variety of rock types and coastal landscapes, big dune systems, and many large midden fields. Private car transport is required to reach the start of both walks, and in addition for the Tarkine walk, a boat trip down the Pieman R.   Both the Coast and the Central Plateau are windy environments, so good tents are required. Feb 4-8   KOSCIUSZKO NP (Q)
Drive down Sun 10th. Guthega Dam up to Consett Stephen Pass then along the Main Range to Kosi then return to Guthega via Snowy River. Recommend driving home Sat 16th. Great views,  be prepared for all weather conditions. Fuel Stoves only,  good quality tents (exposed campsites,  high country weather!) Limit 8. DISTANCE: LONG. The last greater Blue Mountains challenge ? – Morong Deep in a day. Enter via Morong Ck Falls exit via Megalith’s Ridge.  Fast,  small party – numerous swims with bonus 800m climb out at end of the day (good warm up for Mountain biking the following day). Feb 18-28   CENTRAL PLATEAU - TASMANIA  (Q)
Lake Rowallan,  Walls of Jerusalem,  Lake Adelaide,  Junction Lake,  Orion Lakes,  Du Cane Gap,  Overland Track,  Pine Valley,  The Labyrinth,  Pine Valley,  Narcissus Hut,  Lake St Clair.  This area is dotted with glacial montane tarns (small lakes) and bigger lakes below the surrounding peaks.  Only experienced walkers with good tents because of exposed conditions,  generally above 1200m. Be prepared for bad weather. Mostly on track. Stoves only. Bring l/w day pack. Bus from Hobart to W of J and from Lake St Clair to Hobart. Limit 8. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Feb 23-25   PORT HACKING  - Canoeing/Kayaking
Paddling from Grays Point to Bundeena area. Come for either 2 or 3 days. Explore the wonderful waterways of Port Hacking and the Royal National Park. BYO Canoe etc,  PFDs must be worn,  Fuel Stoves only,   Limit 8. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. TRIP GRADE: MEDIUM MAPS: Port Hacking. TRANSPORT: $10

 

Feb 26 (Tue)  CRONULLA HEADLAND LOOP (q)
A popular easy day walk,  swimming along the way in safe coastal rock pools passing Blackwoods Beach,  Burraneer,  Cronulla Beach to Cronulla Point,  Darook Park,  Deeban Walk,  Gunnamatta Foreshore Bushland Reserve through to Winday Point back to Cronulla Station. Feb 28 (Thu)  MEADOWBANK - BANKSTOWN - COOK'S RIVER - MEADOWBANK  - Cycling
Meadowbank,  Olympic Pk,  Strathfield,  Rookwood Cemetery,  Lidcombe,  Regents Pk,  Birrong,  Yagoona,  Bankstown,  Salt Pan Ck,  Riverwood,  M5 East to Cyleway (south side),  through Narwee,  Beverly Hills,  Kingsgrove then north to Clemton Pk,  Earlwood,  Cup & Saucer Ck,  Cooks River to Strathfield & back to Meadowbank. Mar 8-11   MORTON NP  - Cycling
Alternative dates MAR 11,  14 depending on participants. Three days of delightful cycling from Goulburn to Bomaderry. Camping at Shoalhaven River & Sassafras in National Park. Train to start and from finish. Country sealed roads except 6km on gravel. Daily distances 61km,  41km,  58km. Note nearly all of these rides will be 'On Road' & as such only suitable for experienced riders.  Party limit 8,  Helmets & Hi Visibility tops,  sunscreen,  water,  spare tubes & repair kit required.
