The  Heysen Trail extends for 1200km from Cape Jarvis opposite Kangaroo Is to Parachilna Gorge in the spectacular northern Flinders Ranges.  This trip passes through arguably the best of the Flinders Ranges sections on the trail.   The trip will largely be following the trail,  but we will be doing some side trips and diversions from the route,  in particular to Mt Alec (Elders Range),  St Marys peak (Wilpena) and traversing the Heysen Range near Mt Falkland. The first and last of these are off track.  We are walking in an arid area and there are water points along the route,  but at times we will need to carry water for camping. In one point I will be placing by car,  a water cache for trail camping.  Logistics. The leader will be taking his car to set up the trip,  but the scheduling is designed to link up with limited public and chartered transport in the area.  Some use will be made of chartered lifts to the starting point of the walk.   A food cache will be left at the halfway point,  Wilpena Pound Caravan Park.    Trip standard is medium (trail) and hard (off trail)  - better description than box entry below .
