Meet at North Richmond, share taxi (or do car shuffle) to end of Cabbage Tree Road and descend steeply (via track) to the Grose River. Paddle downstream to Nepean River and on to the North Richmond bridge (on outgoing tide). Need Alpacka type or equivalent pack raft. Enjoy waterside views & many wonderful back lanes & roads of the Glebe peninsula as well as riding over the Harbour Bridge!. Jun 4-7 SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS (Q)
This four day trip will depend on the Mt Armour Fire Trail being open after repairs due to the fires. Friday: leave in the morning to drive to the junction of the Colong Stock Route and the Mt Armour Fire Trail, then walk four kms to camp at Colong Swamp. Saturday: Traverse Mootik Walls and descend to camp near the Tonalli River. Sunday: Traverse below the sandstone cliffline of Mt Yuburra with a day pack to the spectacular gap of the Coach and Horses, then continue on to camp at Colong Swamp. Monday: Climb the basalt peak of Mt Colong with a day pack, then return to the cars. Half on fire trails, half off-track with some scrambling on crumbly sandstone. Party limit of eight. Excellent on-track walk from Cowan Station via Jerusalem Bay to Taffys Rock for lunch and return the same way.17 Km, 780m ascent/decent. Jun 7-16* WEST MACDONNELLS NP (Q)
A 10 night off track walk in the Hugh Gorge area of the Chewings Range, Central Australia. We will start from Hugh Gorge Track Head and loop out for 5 days to visit Spiral Canyon, Mulga Creek, Peak Alone and various other canyons & peaks. Then pick up the second half of food and gear and head up Hugh Gorge and beyond, unnamed canyon, Birthday Waterhole, Mount Conroy and finish at Standley Chasm. Pack rafts will be utilised to avoid swimming in the cold canyons. Experience in light weight pack walking on rough ground required. There will be some rock scrambling and bouldering, skills useful but not essential. Maximum pack weight limit of 14 kg per section (excluding water) applies. Thanks to Meg M for advice. We start at Turner Rd, Berowra Heights (Bus 599 from Berowra station). Head north into Berowra Reserve and then the Great North Walk to Berowra Waters for fish and chips. Completing the circuit on the GNW back to Berowra Heights or Berowra Station (both 9km). A short walk, but the hills are the same (200m). DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Jun 12-14 MORTON NP, ETTREMA WILDERNESS, CAVES CIRCUIT (Q)
Greta Rd, Old 4wd Track, 631, Bundundah Ck, Waterfall Cave, Discovery Cave, Passages of Time, Moore Ck, Bollards Cave, Plain Ck, Old 4WD track, Greta Rd. This is my classic Caves Circuit taking in 3 of the best camp caves (sandstone overhangs) on the Ettrema Plateau. 80% offtrack through mainly undulating burnt out country with some minor scrambling and scrub involved. Expressions of interest sought for this walk in the West Macs. Ochre Pits, Inarlanga Gorge, Alice Valley, Giles Spring, Chewings Range, Mt Giles, Canyon of Defiance, Portals Canyon, return via Alice Valley and Ochre Pits. Stunning panoramic vistas and exploring canyons. Base camp at Defiance/Portals for 2-3 nights. Carry water (5+ litres) for one top of the range camp. Mostly off track in hard, rocky, spinifex country so only for fit and experienced walkers. Good boots. needed. Stoves. Jul 31, Aug1 KANANGRA BOYD NP 100 MAN CAVE (Q)
Kanangra Car Park, Kanangra Walls, Crafts Walls, Mt High and Mighty, Mt Stormbreaker, Rip, Rack, Roar, Rumble knolls, Mt Cloudmaker, 100 Man Cave. Return the same way. This iconic walk is the best ridge walk in the KBNP. Sublime vistas from the tops. All track walk with several 200m and 300m ascents and descents. Suitable for fit walkers only. Aug 2-9 WEST CHEWINGS RANGE (Q)
Eight days bushwalking in the West MacDonnells. From Ormiston Gorge, cross Ormiston Pound and climb Corner Peak for excellent views. Continue on to the Canyon of Defiance and base camp for three to four nights. Explore different reaches of the Canyon (Alexas Reach will be new for me), and also adjoining gorges. Its possible to do a day circuit to and from Mt Giles from here. Ascend to the top of the Chewings Range via Pats Canyon and camp at the Dog Leg with superb sunset and sunrise views. Descend to Giles Yard Spring and cross the Alice Valley to the Ochre Pits. Experienced walkers with a good head for heights only. Off-track, rough broken rock underfoot, spinifex, steep slopes, short climbs. Possible wet feet. Book by 25 Feb. Party limit of 8. Motel in Alice Springs before and after the walk. DISTANCE: MEDIUM. Sep 1-20 2021 Wed/Thu QLD CENTRAL HIGHLANDS (Q)
Approx three weeks walking and/or car camping in three different locations: 1. Six nights at Carnarvon Station Reserve (a Bush Heritage property) with drives and day walks. A high clearance 4WD is needed for travelling within the Reserve, these can be hired at a reasonable cost from Charleville; 2. Five nights in the Mount Moffatt section of Carnarvon NP, car camping with day walks. Forester-type 4WD or AWD needed for access; 3. Four days bushwalking in Isla Gorge, exploring new areas. Party limit of 8 for the Reserve, 10 for Isla Gorge, probably more for Mt Moffatt, depending on NP campsite limits. Walks range from short and easy track walks to rough with exposed rock scrambling on loose slopes with scrub. Oct 6 (Wed) KU-RING-GAI CHASE NP (q) - Packrafting
Post Pandemic Packrafting - Terrey Hills to Taylors Point (Northern Beaches). Catch 284 Bus from Chatswood Station Stand C to Terrey Hills. Walk down the Nerang Track, then an off track descent to the tidal limit of Smiths Creek. Paddle down Smiths Creek with outgoing tide, a very interesting creek in its upper reaches. At the Cowan Creek junction, we paddle down to Castle Bay, then pack up the boats and climb up and over to Little Lovett Bay on The Pittwater. Finally, paddle across past Scotland Island to Taylors Point & catch a bus back to The City. Need Alpacka type or equivalent pack raft.
