Feb 2 (Thu)     SYDNEY - Cycling
  Meet at Wharf, use Mortlake Ferry to cross to south side, and more or less follow foreshore to Darling Harbour and Harbour Bridge. Helmets, high visibility jackets, sunscreen, water and spare tube required.

Feb 4,5     COWAN AREA - Canoeing / Kayaking
  It is a great time of the year for a weekend paddle. I suggest either Hacking River or Cowan Water, give me a ring if interested and let me know your preference. BYO Kayak/Canoe or if you are game, Pack Raft, lifejackets must be worn. Limit - 8.

  Rose Bay to Watson's Bay, with optional extension to the Light House. Pleasant summer walking with optional swims.

  Austinmer, Sublime Point, Bulli Lookout, returning the same way. Steps and ladders (390m up/down). Early start & a visit to the beach in the afternoon.

Feb 9 (Thu)     WOLLONGONG AREA - Cycling
  A varied and very scenic ride through the Royal and then down the coast to Wollongong via the Sea Cliff Bridge. Experienced cyclists only, a fair amount of road riding, bring your lunch and we will catch the train back to Sutherland. Please ring to confirm details.   Three weeks of very scenic walks in the NW of South Island with opportunities to get high. Trips 3-5 days, mostly camping. Numbers limited. See Moir's Guide North. Hopkins catchment - Freehold Creek, Ohau Range, Lake Dumb-bell, Sawers Creek. Mt Brewster- Haast Pass, Brewster hut and day trip to Mt Armstrong. Wilkin Valley to Waterfall Flat with day trip to Mt Twilight & Lois Peak. East Matukituki Valley - Cameron Flat, Mt Eoster, Dragon Fly Peak, Albert Burns Saddle, Junction Flat, Kitchener Flat, day trip to Sisyphus Peak. Feb 16 (Thu)     SYDNEY SUBURBS - Cycling
  We will cycle along on road cycle tracks to Browns Waterhole and then Kissing Point Road and back streets to Bobbin Head Rd. After a break at Bobbin Head we will ride up past Kalkari visitors centre and have time for a look at the animals and other displays. Then it's off to Asquith and Turramurra via Sherbrook Rd & Alexandria Pde. and another coffee break then back down Kissing Point Rd, Browns Waterhole and Epping. Bring your lunch. Feb 24-26     (Q) MORTON NP
  3 day bushwalk into the pristine Ettrema Creek, enjoying brilliant swimming holes, Sentry Box Canyon plus a full day to explore the fabulous Jones Creek. Entry via Boomerang Pass. Exit via the many waterfalls of Myall Creek. Grade: Medium Limit: 8.

Feb 25-27     (Q) KANANGRA-BOYD NP
  A three day walk to avoid heat exhaustion on the climb out. Kanangra Tops, Boyd Range, Sombre Dome, Kowmung River, camp in Hatchers Hollow. Latish start next day to walk upstream and camp on Despond Ridge where a branch of Doris Ck runs close to the ridge. Complete the climb back to the tops on the last day. Limit: 8.

Mar 1,1     KU-RING-GAI CHASE NP - Cycling
  Start at Epping Station or Browns Waterhole and ride the back streets to Bobbin Head, take a break then peddle up to Kalkari Visitors Centre to check out the animal displays both live and stuffed. Then on to Mt.Colah and return along back streets to Turramurra, another break and then downhill to Browns Waterhole or Epping. Bring or buy lunch, we will have at least two cafÈ stops.   Fig Tree Bridge, Tarban Ck Bridge, Gladesville Bridge, past Birkenhead Point then around Iron Cove, through Leichhardt, across the Anzac Bridge, Pyrmont Bridge, Observatory Hill, Harbour Bridge, North Sydney, Naremburn, Lane Cove. Bring your lunch, promise two cafÈ stops! Those that do not want to go all the way can bail out either end of Harbour Bridge. Please ring to confirm details.   Charlotte Pass and camp on Mt Townsend, Wilkinsons Valley, Swampy Plain River, Cootapatamba Hut and camp on the Rams Head. Along the Rams Head Range to Charlotte Pass. A high walk when the weather should be cooler and there are no flyers around.

Mar 13 (Tue)     LANE COVE - Canoeing / Kayaking
  Launch from Burns Bay Reserve boat ramp, Kooyong Road Riverview, back around Linley Point and Fig Tree Bridge and leisurely paddling upstream to the weir just beyond Fullers Bridge and return. Further paddling and exploration downstream towards main Sydney Harbour and return according to time, weather and participants' choice. Autumn is still great for kayaking. Packrafters may participate but will need sail or outboard motor to keep up. 'Global Paddler' (see Club Notices and News) trip notes available by request. Own canoe or kayak, vehicle transport and PFD required. May be able to re-schedule date.

  5 days canyoning + a day either side for walk in/out via the Old Army Road. Likely canyons are Blackboard, Mr Squiggles, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Cricket & Nude. Excellent opportunity to visit this infrequently visited and spectacular area. Experienced canyoners only. Limit: 6.   Two day rides in this delightful rural, wine district of Murrumbatman north of Canberra. We will stay in motel or hotel accommodation either at Murrumbatman or Gunning with the option of going out for a meal on Sat night.   Friday - walk from Bell Station to Wollangambe Crater and a great camp spot. Remainder of Friday and Saturday - have a look at the crater. Sunday - walk back out the same way. This will be a fun walk, part track/ part scrub bash. A good walk for Prospectives.

  A walk in three sections taking in the best parts of South West Tasmania. Walkers can participate in any one or more sections. Joint trip with the Brisbane Water Outdoors Club. Limited numbers. Apr 11 - Apr 19: South Coast Track. The walk traverses the magnificent south coast of Tasmania from Cockle Creek to Melaleuca along a defined route. (Apr 20 - Apr 23: Four day overlap at Melaleuca in case of inclement weather during re-supply). Apr 24 - May 05: South West Cape. The walk continues along the south and south-west coast, returning overland via Melaleuca and the Port Davey Track to Scotts Peak. Partly off-track. (May 06 Re-supply at Scotts Peak). May 07 - May 21: Western Arthurs and Federation Peak. The greatest walk in South West Tasmania and, in the leader's opinion, one of the best walks in the world!

  Launch from Garigal NP at Roseville Bridge (park entry sticker needed and entry from and exit to Killarney Heights side only). Paddle upstream on Middle Harbour Creek (to catch 11am high tide) and return. Only a short trip, so optional trip downstream to Bantry Bay (and further?) and return.   Meet at Wisemans Ferry, catch Webbs Creek Ferry then cycle up to St Albans for lunch return down the other side of the MacDonald River to the Wisemans Ferry, about 42 kms all up and flat to undulating. Cross on the Wisemans Ferry and drive home. Helmets and high visibility jackets, sunscreen, water & spare tube required.

  Come and join in a walk around the historic city of Parramatta. We will start at the southern side of Parramatta Station walk around the Harris Park Precinct (good coffee and Lebanese sweets) then head north to the river and follow it upstream to Parramatta Park. After lunch we will return to the station via the CBD. I expect the whole walk (including all breaks) to take about six hours and cover approx. 12 kms. Limit - 8.

  Deua National Park 3 day full pack walk (off track in wilderness area). Experience some of the best ridge walking in NSW with spectacular views. From Mt Dampier traverse south to camp on Tabletop Mountain, then descend, over Scout Hat, to a beautiful Blue Gum forest on Woila Creek. The last day is a steep direct ascent over Mother Woila (with a short scambling section) and some airy ridgelines. Drive to start Friday night. Limit: 8.

  A shorter route up Mt Colong, which we will climb via a spur on its eastern side. Drive to Batsh Camp Friday night. Barralliers Pass, Mt Meier, Colong Creek, Mt Armour Fire Trail. Camp in a grassy spot near the spring on the summit of Mt Colong, the highest peak in the southern Blue Mountains. Return via Colong Causeway and Kooragang Mountain.

  Four days in the northern Budwangs. Walk or mountain bike to a beautiful forest base camp in the Vines. Explore such features as Battleship Rock, Quiltys Mtn, Bora Ground, Hidden Valley, Mt Sturgess & a number of natural arches plus time around camp - relaxing, bird watching etc. Plus possible mtn bike circumnavigation of Quiltys Mtn. Drive to start Friday night. Limit: 8.

Aug 15-17     (Q) WEST MACDONNELL RANGES NP
  A nine day off-track walk, either Plan A or Plan B, depending on how much rain falls between now and the trip. THE TRIP WILL BE RUN JOINTLY WITH CANBERRA BUSHWALKING CLUB. Expressions of interest by end of January. Plan A (lots of rain): Ormiston Gorge, Bowmans Gap, climb the mountain which forms the north side of the Gorge. Explore the Woolshed Yard area, access the Red Wall from its north-flowing creek. Climb Peak 1307 metres on the NE corner of Ormiston Pound, camp on its southern side. Climb Mt Giles (via Bas's Ridge?) and camp on top. Return either to Ormiston Gorge across the Pound, or the Ochre Pits via Giles Yard Springs. Plan B (limited rain): Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ellery Ck gap in the Chewings Range, explore the gorges west along the southern side of the Range. Cross the Range to Portals campsite, walk east to cross Ellery Creek, camp at Trident Gorge on the north side of the Range. Climb to the tops, walk west for a bit, descend and return to the Big Hole. Limit 8.

  This walk will have roughly the same starting and finishing points as the John Muir trail but will be an off-track walk. It will traverse some of the most beautiful scenery that America has to offer. Total distance is about 320km spread over about 4 weeks.
